The Art of Mystery

Ranthelo brings interactive detective experiences to life across Portugal

We’ve been designing and hosting immersive mystery events since 2019. Our role-playing sessions transform ordinary evenings into unforgettable adventures where you’re the detective, the suspect, or the mastermind behind the intrigue. From intimate dinner parties to large-scale whodunit experiences, we craft every detail to pull you into a world of secrets, suspense, and strategic gameplay.

How Ranthelo Started

A passion for storytelling and social connection sparked something remarkable

The founder noticed something troubling at social gatherings around Lisbon and Porto. People were scrolling through phones instead of talking to each other. There wasn’t a natural way for adults to meet new people, have meaningful conversations, and actually enjoy an evening that felt different from the usual restaurant routine. Something was missing.

What if we created events where everyone had to engage? Where your phone stayed in your pocket because you’d been assigned a character, given secrets to keep, and tasked with solving an actual mystery. We’re not talking about passive entertainment. We’re talking about becoming someone else for the night, making decisions that matter within the game, and creating memories through genuine human interaction.

That’s what Ranthelo does. We’ve hosted over 150 events across Portugal. We’ve seen friendships formed, professional networks built, and people rediscover the joy of face-to-face engagement. Every game is different. Every player’s experience is unique. And that’s intentional.

What We Create

Each event type is designed for different group sizes and preferences. We’ve built our reputation on flexibility and quality execution.

Role-Playing Sessions

Structured games where you’re assigned a character with backstory, secrets, and objectives. These sessions typically run 3-4 hours and work best with 8-20 players. You’ll interact with other characters, gather clues, and make strategic decisions that shape the outcome.

Detective Dinner Parties

A crime unfolds during your meal. The host isn’t really the host. One guest will be murdered (theatrically). You’ll investigate while eating, interact with “suspicious” characters between courses, and vote on who the culprit is. Elegant, engaging, and you get actual food out of it.

Whodunit Evenings

Large-scale mystery experiences for groups of 30-100+. These are structured around a central mystery with multiple scenes, plot twists, and genuine surprises. Everyone participates. Some solve. Some complicate matters. The mystery doesn’t resolve until the final act.

Interactive Storytelling

Narrative-driven experiences where your choices genuinely alter the story’s direction. We weave character arcs, player decisions, and unexpected plot twists into an experience where you’re not just participating—you’re creating the narrative alongside us.

How We Think About Events

Our approach to mystery experiences is built on specific beliefs about how adults want to spend their time

Everyone Gets to Play

We don’t believe in spectators. Whether you’re naturally outgoing or prefer quieter roles, there’s a character designed for you. Shy players often become the most memorable suspects. Introverts have made the best investigators. The game adapts to who you are.

Quality Over Complexity

A good mystery doesn’t need to be convoluted. We build games with clear objectives, achievable solutions, and genuine surprises—not trick endings where nobody could’ve solved it. Players should feel clever when they figure things out, not cheated when they don’t.

Respect the Social Experience

The game is a framework for human connection. We deliberately create downtime where characters talk, debate, and form alliances. The mystery matters, but the conversations that happen around solving it? That’s the real value. That’s why people come back.

Authenticity Matters

We don’t use cheap props or amateur production. Costumes fit. Props are real. Clues are actual objects you can examine. Characters have depth and motivation. When you step into our events, you’re stepping into a real world—one that just happens to have a murder to solve.

How We Bring Mysteries to Life

From initial concept to final reveal, here’s how Ranthelo designs and executes your experience

01

Discovery & Design

We start by understanding your vision. What tone are you imagining? Corporate team-building or intimate friends’ gathering? Dark psychological thriller or lighthearted comedy? We ask detailed questions, sketch character arcs, and outline the central mystery. This phase typically takes 1-2 weeks for custom events.

02

Character Development

We write detailed character profiles for every role—background, secrets, motivations, relationships to other characters. You’ll receive your character sheet ahead of time with enough information to feel prepared, but enough ambiguity to stay surprised. No character is simply “guilty” or “innocent”—they’re all complicated.

03

Logistics & Coordination

We handle venue setup, props, costumes if needed, timing, and contingency plans. We’ve hosted events in private homes, restaurants, corporate offices, and purpose-built venues. We adapt to your space. We coordinate with catering, manage check-ins, and ensure all technical elements work flawlessly.

04

Event Facilitation

We’re present throughout, managing scene timing, introducing plot twists, answering questions, and keeping energy high. We don’t perform for you—we create the conditions where you perform for each other. If the mystery stalls, we introduce a clue. If energy dips, we escalate stakes. We’re invisible architects making magic happen.

05

Debrief & Reflection

After the mystery resolves, we gather everyone for a debrief. People want to know who knew what, why characters made certain choices, and what clues they missed. This is often where the best stories emerge—people replaying moments, laughing about red herrings, and realizing things they’d overlooked.
